Good stuff

A friend gave me a bunch of roses yesterday.

My ex-lecturer asked me to deliver a half-hour lecture in one of his seminars this July. The topic: modern technology and its impact on literature (or something like that) - he wants me to talk about the fanfiction phenomenon. Whoheee. He didn't actually mention pay or anything, but I'm very flattered by the request. Yay.

I got paid today (for teaching and stuff.)

My auntie not just treated us to a fabulous meal yesterday, but she's also treating us to steaks and asparagus tomorrow. Double yay. She also bought several nice potted plants for the garden (she has a thing for gardens).

I weeded and mowed the lawn, ergo the garden looks better than that of the annoying landlady next door (I mentioned her in previous posts). *shadowboxes* Hah, take that! (the sore back and legs are a small price to pay) Also finally stored all the tons of folded laundry in the wardrobes, where they belong.

Was the perfect mom today: treated the kids and a friend they'd invited to good food, and later a picnic. And we watched The Princess Bride with them - which they absolutely loved. Toyah also told me that she "true loves" me and kissed me madly. Awwww.

Had two blueberry muffins. Yum.

Watched Veronica Mars 1.20. Oh the angst! And I watched Was tun Wenn's Brennt? (What to Do in Case of Fire) - one of my favourite German movies about a handful of small fry anarchists who build a bomb in the late eighties that only goes off 12 years later, when most of them already in much more respectable circumstances. A friendshippy movie with a wonderful Til Schweiger.

Only three Friendship Ficathon dropouts so far, and about half a dozen delays. That's not too bad.

Bad stuff? None that I can think of, other than my dad's bad health. But that's outside my power anyway. Now if only there were some Spethan porn, my day would be perfect. In absense of that I think I'll turn in. Toodles. *waves*

Bought a few nice but not too expensive things for the kids, pretty skirts, and a chemistry experiment kit for Tina. Also bought myself a few trinkets, nothing fancy, just a little box which looks like a minitiure antique suitcase and a little candleholder - together for under ten bucks. I'm really pleased with my purchases. I don't often by decorative things and whenever I have money for myself I often end up spending it on the kids. The house is crammed full with stuff that I can't throw away or part with for sentimental reasons, like china, old handbags, scarves, vases, pictures, photo albums. I have my mother's heirlooms, my grandmother's... Sometimes I wonder if I hold on to these things because my memory is so bad. These objects help me remember my mom and gran, but I'm pretty sure I'd be happier if I didn't have to dust them all off.

Anyway, had a nice day in town with auntie and kids, all three were very well-behaved, but at the end I was exhausted. We also had a nice dinner. And then we tried to watch TV. I never watch TV. Never - unless it's Wissen macht Ah! - a very educational kid's program. And tonight I was reminded why I don't. Holy crap, German Saturday night TV sucks dead toads. I watched a documentary on the history of helicopters, for god's sake. Oh well. Tomorrow, auntie drives home and I can get back to pleasures like writing, surfing, reading, and downloading epis of American TV shows. LOL.
