I'm glad you like the descriptions. I was teaching a workshop on setting, and writing that story was my mental preparation for it. I'd stumbled across an article about Cuba in a Geo magazine, and thought it might make a nice setting, but it took more than year for the notes that I'd jotted down to be turned into a story.
