More expenses
The cupboard that houses our fridge just collapsed. The feet broke. Luckily hubby kinda caught it. He held it upright till I'd emptied all compartments and he got the fridge out. But now we are without housing for our fridge. We have an old fridge in the cellar, I guess we will have to use that. Ack. My kitchen looked so tidy today, and now it looks like a bomb went off. *sigh*
Oh well, at least I managed to post a parcel, a letter, and a postcard to some of my favourite LJ people. I had planned on sending more, but now I have to wait and assess how much this stupid kitchen is gonna cost us. *bangs head on desk*
Naturally, I was going to write, but now I'm stuck in the kitchen. And my dentist appointment is in less than two hours. We start the next root canal treatment. I haven't been able to chew properly for weeks. It's getting on my wick. Also, I promised Tina to play cards with her today. So, I guess, I won't finish chapter 9 of Dealing today after all. :-(
ETA: Hubby just reminded me: Last year at this time it was the washing machine that broke. We always have such a calamity in December. I wonder why.

You have no idea how much I sympathize at the moment. ::sigh::

We should redecorate the living room, but we have so many bookshelves, hubby refuses to move them. And we need a new living room carpet - desperately. It belonged to the previous tenants. It looks awful, I hated it the second I clapped eyes on it. I never should have let hubby talk me out of buying a new one when we moved in. Now I will never get a new one. *sigh*
Oh well, I guess we will go to IKEA this week to see what a replacement cupboard will cost.

I think in December we feel monetary strain more sorely. Everywhere there are nifty things, special offers and whatnot, so not being able to buy all those goodies is a strain.
Housing costs should not descend on unsuspecting people like that. Like Becca said:
Things should just work. Properly. For as long as they are told to.
Word.

You know, things aren't really bad. The family is relatively happy and we bought nice gifts for the kids. But it is crushing that there's no real hope of ever being comfortably off. And by comfortably I mean being able to eat out once or twice a month (not extravagantly), being able to buy a DVD every month, being able to buy new clothes and throw away every piece of clothing older than ten years (half of my wardrobe). And all that without having to worry that the next unexpected payment for repairs will break our backs.
Bah.
But, like I said, on the not-so materialistic level things are fine, and I guess that's what really counts.

Yes, that's true of course. However, it's not like the things you want are unreasonable. I don't blame you for feeling fed up.

Word, dear, just word.

and then they say "GET IT?"
and we all say, 'yeah we get it' and go spend hundreds of dollars on presents anyway.
We are a race of retards.
