Plagiarism

So, some of you may have heard already that there has been another plagiarism case - this time not on [livejournal.com profile] spiketara (thank god), but at bloodshedverse, a Spuffy archive that specializes on bloodplay fic. [livejournal.com profile] bloodshedbaby, the archivist identified two of three submitted stories as cut-and-paste jobs of stories by Laure Alexander. I'm not sure if the third story has been identified yet. Read more here.

I had meant to set up an LJ-community dedicated to uncovering cases of plagiarism, but got caught up doing other stuff. Now it looks like [livejournal.com profile] quinara is thinking about guidelines such a community needs. If such a communitiy is created I will gladly join, because I find plagiarism despicable and will do my best to expose it.

That would be fantastic if there was a community set up for this - it would act as a brilliant deterrent for those people daft enough to try something like this.

I must admit I really don't understand why someone would bother stealing someone elses work. You'd hardly think you'd feel a glow of satisfaction for feedback for something that you didn't even do.

Yeah, I found the third story posted under another name somewhere, but as you well know that proves little.

So, so annoying.

I've given her some feedback -- it's a good idea; sort of a "Better Business Bureau" for the fic community. I'll happily sign on, even devote time and energy to it because I think this is something we need to be watchful.

I thought you might... ;-)
I know how strongly you feel about this. *hug*

A community would be a good thing. I'd happily support such an idea.

It's a great idea, I would join. I know [livejournal.com profile] essie07 is thinking of starting a plagiarism website and is looking for help with it.

Well, maybe we should all join forces. Website and LJ community should go hand in hand!

That would be great to have them together, double the coverage.

I agree it's despicable and I can't imagine why people do it. What for?
