geocities / archive stuff

Huh? I got a message from yahoo informing me that my geocities site experienced a lot of traffic recently and that it had to be shut down twice to preserve bandwidth. I haven't updated that site in forever (ever since I got my own domain), so this is rather weird. I guess it's time I took that old archive down and replaced it with a reroute thingie... *makes mental note* I better ask hubby how to create a page that automatically reroutes people...
Anyway, I better start taking the stories down. :-)
[ETA: Actually, the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that the email is fake. An attempt to get me to click on links so the senders can install spywear and suss out my passwords or something...]

Also, I'd like to pimp a fantastic new site: The Reference Key - a database that gathers links to Spike/Angel stories archived elsewhere. Authors can list their stories there and anyone can search for specific stories. You want to read stories about Fledgeling Will or about Human Liam? The search engine will help you.
The site is coded and maintained by [livejournal.com profile] itsabigrock and [livejournal.com profile] peasant_.
I wish we had a S/X database like that.
Of course, a database is only as good as the people who register. If you know a good S/A author who has not listed her/his stories there, give her/him a nudge.

Keswindhover got the same message from Yahoo, even though her stats didn't back it up. Something is certainly going on there.

I once received an email that looked as though it came from ebay - warning me that my account needed re-verification... And those clickable links were definitely not ebay-links. Nasty spammers - should be dipped into honey and buried naked inside an anthill. ;-)

My wonderful little Semagic mentioned that it happens to be a certain someones birthday. If it's correct... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
If it's not... please ignore the previous statement and replace it with...
Have a nice day!

:o)

Interesting and tricky idea for a possible misdirect spam. You were smart not to click the links.

Ooh thank you, dear. You were a teensie weensie bit early, but that made you the first person to say Happy Birthday to me. Yay! :-)

Cheers.

(I just secretly snuck away from the Toyah's-first-day-at-school festivities...)

Nah, I assumed it was a fake of some sort as I have a low-to-no traffic site and I got one too.

I decided not to click on the links. But I deleted most of my geocities files anyway. People should visit the new archive...
