A poll, a poll!
I decided, on the spur of the moment, to sign up for NaNoWriMo. I'll see how far I get, but anything that gets me to write fast is a good thing as long as it lasts. I will write in German, that should improve my speed tremendously.
It's a heroic fantasy set in a pseudo-medieval semi-Scottish/Anglo-Saxon culture, with a strong mystery element and an even stronger buddy storyline. The plot has been in my head for ages, it's just a matter of getting it out on paper. I still have to name my characters, though. Maybe you can help me?
ETA: Ack, I forgot to add the name Derek to the list of names for hero #1. So, you can vote for that too. Just check "Other".
[Poll #602620]
If you think one of the names is really dreadful and totally unsuitable, please tell me in the comments.

McAelfin seems a tad too obvious that he's going to be "sly, a charmer, an opportunist." I do like Rhain in the sly nod way to the other "sly, a charmer, an opportunist" named Rayne.

I don't have a lot of choice with the clan names. It's a tie-in novel for a fantasy rolegame. The clans have their rivalries and personalities and I picked a combination that will provide a lot of friction. Also, the two characters will complement each other nicely. Once they've buried some of their prejudices. :-)
I adore your icon, btw. :-)

Ah, that makes sense. No worries, then. I'll be rooting for you.

Current word count: 1174 words.
I promised the kids I'd buy them something nice if I manage to get the novel written by end of November. Maybe that will help. :-)

I am assuming you mean Stargate Atlantis, yes?
I saw the first half season or so and have forgotten everybody in it except for that annoying woman Teela or whatever her name was. I remember enjoying the show in a very mild uninvolved way.
So who's Rodric and who's John?
Is one the geeky technician guy?
Come on, enlighten me. :-)

Dr. Rodney McKay is chief Scientist of the Atlantis Mission.
(that's him, he's completely adorkable - the geek that's kind of a bastard until he shows how yummy & sweet he truly is inside... we are still waiting for him to show that. ^_~)
And Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard is the acting military commander? or something. He's the guy in charge when things get too ugly.
(Yep, he's this hottie. He's the hero with the awful past who hides behind a charming facade.)
John/Rodney is love. Trust me. It couldn't be more canon.

Of course I'm totally infatuated with Jensen Ackles these days so there's no room in my heart for John or Rodney, I'm afraid.
Too bad I don't know who to pair Dean Winchester (aka Jensen Ackles) with. I am not into incest/slash and there are not enough other yummie male characters. :-(
Spike/Dean could be fun. Mmmmm.
Heros with awful pasts are the best. LOL.
