I got tagged!

I got tagged by [livejournal.com profile] marcee12 so here goes:

Write a jounal entry with six random facts about yourself. Then, pick six of your friends list and tag them - no tag backs. These rules should be included in your entry.

1. For a while, English was my worst subject at school.

2. I like winning. When we play a boardgame like Settlers of Catan and the rules give me an opportunity to harm one of my opponents by capturing one of his pieces or by stealing a card or whatever, I always pick Mr. E. I know he's dangerous competition.

3. I once rode my bike against a parked car - I was reading while driving.

4. I cry during movies and at funerals, but I can't cry out of unhappiness, even though I often feel like it.

5. I like rollercoasters.

6. I should be working on my translation, instead of doing memes or reading LJ. I have at least 5 pages to do every night until Wednesday. *sigh*

I'm not sure if people will notice if I tag them. My LJ is a bit quiet these days. Oh well, I'll tag:

#1. Really?

#3. This shouldn't be funny. *hides giggle*

#1. Yup. Really. When I told my then-English teacher that I wanted English for a main subject for my A-levels she looked at me as though I'd grown a second head.
I liked the subject, I just didn't like the teacher, but a very old-school teacher was offering the A-level courses, and I trusted her lessons to be good. From then on my grades got better steadily. In the final exam I did really well.

#3 Nope. Wasn't funny. My bike was dented afterwards! Okay, maybe just a little. :-)

Teachers really can make that much of a difference, can't they?

Absolutely.
I notice this now more than ever. I am currently translating a paper on foreign language learning, and I'm a parents' representative at our daughters' school board. Interesting stuff.
