The vampire is gone. The town has been sucked into a giant sinkhole, his school is no more, he got stabbed in the gut, and some of the girls died today, among them Amanda. By rights he should mourn her and the others, but all he can think about is the vampire.
Buffy is silent, but one doesn’t need a degree to figure out that the creature who killed his mother is dust.
Then where is the satisfaction, the closure? All he feels is a void where the hatred used to be. Is that a good thing? Time will tell.
