Apr. 18th, 2003 01:03 amWatched Vidoq, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya-sisterhood and Bend it like Beckham on DVD. Three good films. The first had interesting color schemes and the director made a few unexpected choices regarding mis-en-scéne. Still, I named the murderer about 2 minutes after he appeared on the scene. I'm beginning to wonder: if a film or TV episode is predictable to me does that mean the film is bad or blatantly obvious or am I just too attuned to story telling techniques that I can's shut my brain off and analyse while watching?
The Ya-Ya-Sisters were a lot more unpredictable, giving off a very realistic vibe. A wonderful film. I just love Maggie Smith. And I like Sandra Bullock. And the old girls were just so vibrant.
The Beckham film was cute in that it reminded me of my days at college in London, where we had several Asian girls in our dorm. We had lovely Indian meals and several parties with Indian pop music. Bend it like Beckham brought it all back and made me very nostalgic. A charming and amusing little film with a nice parallel montage of the soccer match and the Indian wedding. And lots of punjab music. Yay.
I did NOT clean the house for Easter, although we expect visitors for lunch tomorrow. Sigh. Now I feel totally guilty for the pig sty we live in. Maybe I can push the hoover around a bit tomorrow morning.
I had quite a temper today. Hormones? Guilt over piles of laundry and pig sty home? Lack of progress with my WIPs? Probably all of the above.
Maybe I need more sleep.
