Rec: Two Ethan fics
Nov. 10th, 2003 12:26 pmI started reading through the (few) Ethan fics over at the BBF Archive. (Incidentally, Mona, the link to Jane St Clair's 'Smoke' is broken)
TITLE: Lament of Ganymede
AUTHOR: Two Ladies of Quality aka
riani1
PAIRING: Giles/Ethan
GENRE: Slash, h/c
RATING: R
SPOILERS: Season 6, post Tabula Rasa, Giles in England
SUMMARY: It's been a long time since Giles waved Ethan off into the arms of the Initiative. But now Ethan's back....
My comment: I particularly like the dialogue, the atmosphere, the economic language, and Giles's musings how Ethan is his dark mirror. I'm a sucker for h/c and love seeing characters relate to each other on an emotional level. The sexual interaction at the end seemed well, not gratuitous, because it's not graphic or titillating, but it seemed to slightly interfer with the h/c angle of this touching story. But who am I to complain? I've written smut for stories that don't really require it.
TITLE: Anywhere But Here
AUTHOR: Sarah T.
PAIRING: Ethan & Dawn; Giles/Ethan (implied)
GENRE: drama, adventure
RATING: PG-13
SPOILERS: Post-"Gift"
SUMMARY: A chaos sorcerer travelling light, without guilt, and a teenager feeling guilty for the death of her sister go on a road trip...
My comment: Marvellous Ethan voice! Brilliant Dawn, with all her self-centered pouting and occasional bouts of perception - the story captures both characters perfectly, with fondness and humor, but without whitewashing their flaws. The story moved and amused me. Highly recommended!
I just realised that I need a new icon for fic recs....

Taking a nap on the sofa with two children in the house is a doomed endeavour. *sigh*
Congrats to everybody who won a Precious Kisses Award. Especially to
circe_tigana, who's No Power on Earth I truly adore.
Remember that I wrote that Tina is suffering from scarlet fever? Well, she also had glandular fever at the same time. Poor little critter. Now wonder she was so deathly pale. Fortunately she's already better, she can go to school, but she's not supposed to go to gym class and cheerleader training for three weeks, so she can recover her strength.
Today I could do with a kindly grandmother. I need someone to wrap me in warm blankets, fetch me hot cocoa or coffee and pat my head. A footrub would not be amiss, either. And I sure wouldn't object to chocolate chip cookies or wholewheat digestives. Not having any living relatives to mollycoddle you sucks. *sigh* I miss my granny (for purely selfish reasons, I know, but still.).
