There are three films which we watch every year when Christmas approaches:
Little Lord Fauntleroy - with Sir Alec Guiness at his grumpiest, schmoopy but great.
Ground Hog Day - with a grumpy Bill Murray (best scene: when after driving like a maniac he gets stopped by the police, he rolls down his window and orders three cheesburgers with fries....)
Scrooged - with Bill Murray - hasn't aged gracefully, but it still has it's moments: when Murray gets a toaster slammed into his face or the hilarious commercial for his show, or the opening scene of the movie where Santa's elves brandish machine guns...
Do you have movies that you associate with Christmas? Or New Year's Eve?
Many Germans watch a short black and white program called Dinner For One every New Year's Eve. It's traditional, even though it's in English. It's a little comedy about an old lady called Miss Sophie, who celebrates her 80th birthday by having a dinner party with her four best friends. Unfortunately the dear old friends all passed away decades ago and their roles are now played by the butler James. Hilarious.
