Hi guys, we're back. All in one piece, well rested and happy.

This year I managed to do something quite unreal: I actually tidied up about 75% of the house before we left. Meaning we came back to a tidy home. Whoohoo! And the best thing: A good friend of ours, S., looked after the house, feeding the fishies and watering the garden. Believe it or not, but she also washed our remaning laundry, folded it, and then tidied up our linen cupboard. And there was a plate of Brownies on our table. Aaand she'd stocked the fridge with milk and a few other things. And she'd cleaned the bathroom and the kitchen, bringing the cleanliness of the house up to a staggering 90-95 %. I still have to tidy up the cellar, the downstairs book shelf, and two cupboards but hey, that's the invisible mess. Whooohooo, our house looks great! We'll definitely take S. out to see Madagascar tomorrow. And noooo, S. is my friend, and mine alone. You can't have her!

We only stayed in Berlin Monday to Saturday, but during those few days we really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] drc1's advice, we went to a summer holiday camp thingie where kids were offered a choice of events, like reenactment of the Middle Ages, or sports; the kids rowed inflatable boats, climbed up a mountaineering wall (Hubby took pictures which I'll try to post tomorrow), did pottery, heard a 'lecture' about courtly love, weaved, practiced sword fighting, saw lots of Chinese kids dance and do gymnastics, went swimming, jumped trampoline, practiced juggling and balancing on a large ball etc. and thanks to the German-chinese-youth week there was also a dance performance (the kids love all kinds of dance). And the best thing: admission was incredibly cheap.

That's not all we did. We played Pokémon a few times, and we ate several Döner Kebabs (yum). The kids would have loved to stay a few more weeks. Unfortunately, Mr. E has plenty of work waiting for him, plus we go Irish dancing tomorrow, and it's Viktoria's birthday on Tuesday. Busy busy busy.

Other squeeworthy stuff:
Guess what I found when I checked out my LJ. Big surprise! [livejournal.com profile] spikendru wrote a Spike/Ethan fic for me. Squeeeeee! It's called Ghosts of Youth. *bounce bounce bounce* Go read it.

Oh, and when I came home I found the university contract in the mail, and the first five sign-ups for my creative writing course. Yes! *bounce*

Did I write during my stay in Berlin? Well, I did my three morning pages every day; also hubby and I read a book on screenplay writing and started discussing a screenplay idea that we had about a month ago; I rewrote/trimmed a big (unposted) chunk of Four Fear, speeding up the narrative considerably and I also moved on to the next scene. Tomorrow I'll give the chapter another read through. Hopefully I'll have something to post tomorrow. So yeah, writing was on my mind, but I didn't allow it to cause undue stress.

BTW, I had packed HP6 and started reading it, but guess who ended up reading it first? Yup. Hubby is a big meanie.
I also bought new shoes - and boy do I hope that they are worth the investment.

How's that. I'm gone for a few days and miss the great news. James Marsters has a role on Smallville. Not my favorite show, by far, but I'm glad he has work. A villian is good, a villain known for being intelligent? Even better. I'll tune in. It means I have to catch up with S4 (I heard rumors that it isn't very good), but I was going to do that anyway. And yeah, I know, you're probably sick of the whole subject already.
Apart from the good news I seem to have missed a few kerfuffles. I have decided that I have neither time nor patience for kerfuffles. When I started out on LJ my kids were both in kindergarten and I had the house to myself from 8 to 3 p.m. every day. My LJ habits formed then: I spent a lot of time reading and writing, even arguing and getting involved in discussions. These days I don't have that time anymore. Too many projects fight for the morning spot where I'm alert and creative. And in the evenings the naughty little torrent fairy taps me with her magic wand and turns me into a couch potato. Oh well.
I watched S1 of The Dead Zone last week. Great show. I loved the epi with the Shaman, but some of the others were also pretty good. The main actor is not my cuppa, but hey, I can live with it.
Today, after exhausting two hours of Irish Dancing, we took the kids and housesitter S. to see Madagascar. Fun, but the screenplay is definitely an example of writing by numbers. Very formulaic, also too gadgety. Still, the main characters were great and some of the jokes were very funny.

*sigh* Right, who's gonna cook me dinner? Something with lots of veggies? *pats tummy woefully*
