BDAY - also a question about trees/plants
Oct. 11th, 2005 12:17 pmHappy birthday,
marguerite_26! Manny happy returns.
Also, I have a question to anyone versed in plant lore. What kind of climbable tree may I find in a Californian front garden (the kind that a boy might use to climb out of his bedroom window), and what kind of flowers/shrubs would I find in a Californian middle class garden, assuming it's kind of summerish? The family whose garden I want to describe is deceptively middle class, but in truth they abuse their foster son. Ordinarily I'd use orchids to characterise these people, because orchids are parasitic, but they require greenhouses and what not....
Hands up, who gets suspicious if a character in film or book has a thing for orchids? Who else remembers that marvellous scene in In The Heat of The Night? Or the quite unhinged lady in Minority Report? I guess Nero Wolfe is an exception....
