snoopygirll I did this IQ test tingie, dreading the worst, because I often feel that since I became a mom my brain went into intellectual limbo and that my IQ plummeted like a parachutist who's chute doesn't open.
I'm pleased to end up with 135 because that's only a little bit lower than what was measured when I was 10. My mom had me tested to find out if I should go to Gymnasium (our High School) or not. She was ambitious for me, but she didn't want to whip me into an education program I wasn't fit for.
What I find amusing is that these tests always claim that I have great mathematical skills, when I can't do figures. At. All. Anything to do with numbers (prices, dates, telephone numbers, mathematical formulas) usually flees my mind at the speed of light (but strangely enough, I can tell you that BtVS 6x13 is Dead Things, and that Alpha Centauri is 5,4 lightyears away). Anyway, according to the tests I'm a Facts Curator, i.e. (quote): This means you are highly intelligent and have picked up an impressive and unique collection of facts and figures over the years. You've got a remarkable vocabulary and exceptional math skills — which puts you in the same class as brainiacs like Bill Gates. *snort* So why do I feel so dumb so very often?
As for the family: daughter number one's tonsil's are inflamed. She couldn't go to last night's lantern party that was held in daughter number two's kindergarten. Tonight I'll take both kids on a little lantern walk.
People in the US may not know this, but we have a celebration here that is called St. Martin's, honoring the saint who shared his cloak with poor people. Small groups of children walk around with paper lanterns around the 5th of November, singing songs (well in most areas anyway). Somehow the Protestants didn't want to miss out on all the fun and they celebrate Martin Luther's birthday in the same way at the same time. Clever. Actually, nowadays hardly anyone remembers the roots of the custom anyway. And people go for night walks several time, trying to get some mileage out of the lanterns. Our kindergarten usually asks parents to build pretty lanterns for the kids.
In Osnabrück, the town where I grew up, the procession is always a huge affair and hundreds of kids march through town together, the girls with lanterns and the boys with little hobby-horses, because in Osnabrück we celebrate the Westfalian Peace Treaty at that time, so all the kids march to the town hall, where the Mayor hands them a big fresh bretzel. :-) At leasts that's how it was celebrated over 30 years ago....
Now I feel really old, on top of feeling sick. Ack.
ETA: Remember my birthsign rant two days ago? I finally decided to tell the guy in question that I no longer want to be friends with him. I like him but he's too high mainanance. Having to fulfill his expectations stresses me, it actually gives me a rash and several days worth of depression each time he sends me another email. *sigh*
So, if you're wondering why I'm not writing? Blame it on him.
