After reading a friend's comment and a review at AICN I fully expected to like this and... I did. I Robot is a fine example that an action movie with lots of robots does not have to be dumb. The dialogue is snarky, Will Smith, who I never particularly liked, delivers his lines well and looks yummie, very very yummie. This followed all the rules about mythic storytelling. The hero is herioic, likeable, but hurt (both physically and psychologically), he bodily incorporates the theme of the mmovie, and he overcomes insurmoutable odds. He even gets a kind of sidekick, and we see the new evolved robot make the right choice where his predecessors failed. All in all a very well constructed story. Predictable if one is versed in storytelling but in a satisfying way.
I think that might be one for our DVD collection when it comes out. I have a soft spot for pretty Scifi movies. I adored Minority Report for similar reasons.
Anyway, it felt nice to go to the movies again. I should get out more. My driving skills are rusty and I am getting cabin fever.
