Children's books

It just occurred to me that maybe I could ask you guys on my friendslist whether you have a few English children's books that you no longer need and would be willing to part with (hopefully for not too much money). I would like to teach Tina better English, and I'd like to read to her in English, but children's books are frightfully expensive, English books more so. I could try ebay UK, I guess, but I hate spending money on books without being able to look at them first. And not every seller accepts paypal, which makes money transfers utterly tedious.
So, if you have a few picture books with simple English texts for ages 5-8, I could really really use them (even if they are old and tatty) to teach my little English class, or I could donate them to Tina's primary school (the different classes have book corners in their classrooms). After the summer holidays Tina's class will officially start to learn English (in my time English lessons started in fifth grade, but recently this changed to third grade). It would be nice if they had a small collection of English books. It's a nice school, but they're not exactly rolling in it. Even the computers that the kids use have been donated by parents...
I'd gladly pay for postage and maybe donate a (mostly symbolic) sum to your charity of preference, if you like. I feel a bit awkward asking you guys to help out, but then I remember that we always give away the kids' clothes and toys once our kids grow out of them, rather than selling them on ebay or hitting the fleamarkets. And hey, if things were the other way round, I'd send you lots of German children's book.
Thank you in advance. :-)

Date: 2005-05-10 07:24 pm (UTC)Your timing is great. I have some days off next week, and one of my goals is to clean out closets of old clothes and to go through the books.
Just email me where you'd like me to send them.

Date: 2005-05-10 08:32 pm (UTC)Of course it's true that several of the children's books here- notably Dr. Seuss' On Beyond Zebra and a copy of The Saggy Baggy Elephant with a Christmas inscription from my grandmother- are mine.
Julia, never enough bookcases, never too many books
