Actually, it's not IM-speak but SMS speak. Everybody in Scotland has a cellphone. About 4.000.000 SMS messages are sent every day. That's almost one per inhabitant. Obviously school boards are concerned about this.
I am beginning to think that acronyms like CWOT are going to become the modern Kanjis.
Can you imagine spacefaring archaeological aliens trying to decipher that in a few thousand years? I have this vision of an alien pointing at that message and explaining to an auditorium of other colorful alien that the strange Earth language is using phonetics, pictograms and acronyms at the same time...
