The whole slavery theme is disconcerting, and it's meant to be, but while the show rejects the use of real people (even if wiped) as sexual slaves or disposable set of skills, it still tries to fascinate its audience with a mix of sex, violence and degradation. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
It's a fine line Joss is walking here, I'm not comfortable with it, yet willing to see where it goes. The whole show is very exploitative about ED's body. The whole no persona aspect makes it difficult to connect with Echo the way the audience could connect with Buffy. I hope the characters develop more, er, lacking a better word, warmth? After ep 4 I was almost done with it, but ep 5 was quite promising, it even had some funny moments. We'll see where it goes. Ah, and I wish I could have subtitles, sometimes it's hard to follow :(
