I can't believe that Firefly may get cancelled but second rate crap like John Doe gets shown.
Seriously, John Doe is like Pretender and Profiler rolled into one, with a dash of X-Files for tasty paranoia, stirred not shaken.
Okay, so I only watched 3 episodes so far. But I can't really see the show improving. Most of the problems are home-made - a hero without memories is a hero without personality, i.e. boring. The cases he works on are gruesome but incredibly far-fetched. And the fact that the hero makes everybody else superfluous by knowing everything doesn't help.
What irks me is that he can sort of tap into knowledge without real cost or effort. He can paraglide, dissect corpses and make a fortune at the stock-market. He has no real flaws, except for his lack of memories and his limited experience when it comes to socializing.
His memory loss fails to move me. So he doesn't know what drinks he likes and how he likes his hot dogs? Who cares.
The whole premise is similar to that of Pretender, but at least Jarod had to study books and put in some effort to get into the role he wanted to play. Plus the cast of support characters was more interesting.
In John Doe the support cast can do little more than stand in awe (or be annoyed) when the hero spurts facts.
What a load of crap!
