Why won't this friggin' cold go away?
Well, at least I spent the better half of the day on the sofa watching several Angel episodes. For some reason I never saw "Shanshu in L.A." before, so today I finally got to watch it (I bought the DVDs recently). Good episode. Yeah, I know, a really old one. But I really enjoyed it. Actually, I think it was far superior to anything I've seen this season.

I also watched "Five by Five", "Sanctuary" and "Judgement." I must admit I didn't notice at first that Angel was so good. The first time I got to see it I watched it on crappy tapes borrowed from a friend. Watching them now was like finding an unexpected treasure. Better than I remembered it. Funnier, too. Especially David Boreanaz, who I don't hate just because a fictitious character (Buffy) loves his fictitious character (Angel) and therefore whithholds her affection from another fictitious character (Spike).

Anyway, watching those superior earlier episodes really makes me want to rant about more recent events on the show. What were the writers thinking when they introduced Connor? A sullen, boring superhero teenager with father issues and no manners whatsoever? And when they inflicted Connor/Cordy on us? Why does Angel have to give off daddy vibes when the earlier friendship and teamwork vibes at Angel Investigations were so much more touching? And why does Gunn have to be so boring? Why is Fred's voice so terribly whiney? What happened to Cordelia's snark?

IMHO the show has lost a lot of its earlier discipline. With all the prophecies it has lost sight of its main theme(s). The desire to surprise and startle and come up with unexpected plot twists gets in the way of the metaphors. It's still a good series, but I find it harder and harder to like the characters (except Wes and Lilah). And as cute Lorne may be, he is not really a three-dimensional character.

Okay, I better go to bed before I cough my lungs out. Maybe I will watch some more Angel tomorrow. I wish I had the second half of season 2 on DVD - it's out but €55 is over the top. *Sigh*

Hiya sweetie

Es, darling, I didn't know you had a journal too! How nice. :)

I hope you feel better soon. It's freezing in Kalamazoo too, so I feel your sniffly pain.
