A while ago the news spread that Amber Benson was planning to tour Europe with her movie 'Chance' - even Germany was listed as one of the counties she was going to visit. I just checked the website of the organizers but the announcment (which was for August and September) still hasn't been updated. Does anybody know if these plans have imploded entirely?
Has anyone ordered 'Chance' yet (can be done at Amber's site)? Has it been delivered? 55 bucks for a DVD is a lot of money (actually it's 45 plus 10 for postage, but still), especially since I'd have to pay customs. So, what's the quality of the DVD like? [livejournal.com profile] caille said she liked the movie a lot, and I have heard others state that it's worth watching, so that's not what I'm asking. I want to know if the DVD has decent sound and a good picture. Does anyone know?

This was the answering e-mail I received when asked about any definite dates & venues:

"The Amber Tour will not be taking place, sorry for any inconvience.

Waaaah! But that answers the burning question whether I should wait for the tour or whether I should order my DVD from the states.
Okay, *glares at translation* maybe when the money for my LotR translation arrives in my account, then I'll order.

Thanks.
BTW, I think Jealous Events should take down the announcement.

Waaaah!

Yes, that was my reaction...that, and 'Poo'.

You're right, they should. Probably will as soon as enough interested parties start to respond. Plus I think they could give Jaime a few lessons in how to properly convey disappointing news to people. I mean, why has his event been cancelled?

From Christopher Golden, at Amber's official board (stolen from [livejournal.com profile] kimmed at [livejournal.com profile] amberbenson)

"I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings folks, but LW's out of town and Diane B. asked me to post this for her.

You all know by now that there was never any plan to sell the DVD at the August UK convention.

While a tour had been only tentatively discussed, no agreement was ever finalized and any announcement was very premature. It's not my place to comment further, except to say this: There will be no European Tour at this time, and despite what has been posted by the intended organizers, Diane has asked me to say that the organizers were told this last week in no uncertain terms.

Also, I'm afraid there's more. Given the manner in which things have been conducted, Diane has also asked that I note that it is POSSIBLE that work commitments will prevent Amber from attending the main event at all. While this is always the case, there is a specific potential conflict. Under normal circumstances, no announcement would be made until there was confirmation one way or the other, but given the expectations that have been inaccurately presented, Diane thought it best to caution everyone that this is a possibility. The organizers were also made aware of this last week.

There may be more to come once LW has returned, but for now, Diane has promised to have an announcement posted here once the final decision is made regarding the 3 day event."

I don't think we have to pay customs (I live in Britain, so I would imagine I would be liable for similar costs). I have already received the photo, and it was designated 'gift', to avoid extra taxes etc. Amber's comments suggest that she knows it is already quite expensive, because they are effectively being made 'to order', so I don't think it should cost anymore than $55.

I have yet to receive the DVD, although when I do, I will be sure to comment and let you know of the quality.

Thanks for the info. :-)
Okay, I think I will order mine soon. As soon as I have a bit of money to spare.

There is a thread about the 'Chance' DVD at morethanspike, probably the best place to check for news.:-)

I got the poster about four weeks ago; the accompnaying note said the DVD's would be produced adn sent as soon as they ahd a sufficient quantity to do so, in about 6 to 8 weeks after that. So the earliest DVD's woudl be comign out in a week or two, I guess.

Yeah - we need some one to copy it with rip software and post it on the net so we can download - um, so others can download.

See, I have to politely disagree. I have no problem ripping off production companies who pay millions to idiot stars and waste money on special effects when they should be paying decent script writers, but ripping of Amber who funded the movie with her own private money and donations, well, *that* I wouldn't do.
I think she deserves to make a bit of a profit on it. Plus any endeavour to market something outside the big consortiums should be encouraged. I am a firm believer that artists should get rewarded for their work.
Which is why we like buying music directly from bands.

I have no problem with downloading TV shows. I can watch them for free anyway if I wait. And I buy all Buffy and Angel DVDs that come out even if my copies are good.
Yeah, I'm uptight. *sigh* Sometimes I wish I were more morally flexible.

This is one to buy and feed the artist(s)!

A labor of love, and of personal financial responsibility. Both rare things to spring from Hollywierd. Yup, it's getting my bucks too.
