I went to the doctor today because I had back trouble again. The verdict: my right leg is shorter than my left leg; my hip tilts to one side and my spine goes the other way. Now they tell me! I'm 39 years old, for crying out loud! Couldn't someone find out earlier? I've been running to doctors because of my back and other secondary symptoms (which initially I took to be primary symptoms) for several years now.
Well, I got x-rayed and now I have to wear a little thingie in my shoe and come back in two weeks to report. What really impressed me was how he diagnosed this:
I had to sit, open my mouth, close my eyes and press my right thumb and forefinger together, while he tried to pry them apart. That was easy. Then I had to do it again, while standing, and the funny thing is, this time I had a lot less strength in my fingers! He put something under the heel of my right leg and presto the strength in my fingers was back. If that doesn't feel and sound like mojo, then I don't know what.
Unfortunately, the trip to the doctor ate up my whole morning. To compensate for time wasted in the doctor's waiting room, I treated myself to a take-away consisting of mixed Italian antipasti (various vegetables in olive oil and garlic) with pizza bread and a very garlic-y mayonaise/cream dip. Now I reek of garlic and am happily stuffed. And it was cheap at €3.50. Yay!
I am finally getting into A.S. Byatt's Possession. The first chapter was slow, but I'm getting more interested now. I read about 40 pages this morning. I own hundreds of books, but I hardly read anymore. That's sad, really.
