After 15 years of useful (but dull) presents like a microwave and a shower curtain my sensible husband finally learnt his lesson and got me something I want for my birthday: a voucher from Amazon and a new knapsack. Yay! Well, my great big present this year has been my trip to Tampa anyway, so I'm more than happy about this morning's prezzies.
So.
I'm 40 now. Tell you what. Feels exactly like 39. :-)

Birthday & Kitty
Aug. 27th, 2003 08:49 pmWow, what an incredibly busy day. And a nice day too! Many thanks to everybody who posted birthday greetings in my LJ or elsewhere. I will try to answer them all personally. Today has been soooo busy, I was hardly able to glance at LJ:
Hubby took a few hours off this morning and was extra nice to me, then I picked up Toyah from day care and made lunch for 4 kids and 2 adults, afterwards I gave my first English lesson to three six-year-olds. I was nervous, but it was fun. We did farms and farm animals. Next week we'll cover fruit and more numbers. I also teach phrases like 'Good morning' etc. All three have had English lessons before at pre-school, but elementary school won't teach English for another two years. Anyway, one of the mothers offered to pay me, saying I should put the money into my piggy bank for Vegas. Now I have to decide how much to ask for.
I had a phone call from Bangkok and from several other friends, and two surprise visitors, one arrived with flowers the other with a cake with lit candles. I was utterly thrown. And at about 4 pm a small kitten snuck into our house. Three times.
Now, Stefan is frightfully allergic to cats. But the kitty was so desperate for affection and so eager to please, I kept her in our small hallway, rushed off and bought her food. It's a black kitten with white socks, really pretty, with a flea collar. Tame, sweet, purry (loud, too). The kids told me the kitty had been roaming around at their school, a lady at the supermarket told me she almost ran it over in the morning, so it must have been in the neighborhood all day. It's way too small to be out on its own. Naturally, the kids are extatic. Kitty suffers their affections with considerable dignity.
Anyway, when hubby came home he rushed off, bought cat litter and more cat food, and built a cat toilet. And just now he researched allergy meds. He gets severe asthma. Poor thing. But I can tell, he loves kitty. *sigh* And kitty loves me. The woman with THE FOOD. :-)
It's pretty and cuddly and I wanna keep it.
Well, we are looking for the owners. If nobody claims it we will try to find a good home in the neighborhood so we can visit it.
Anyway, I just ordered myself a Chinese take away (won ton soup - mmmmm) and then hubby and I will prop up our feet and watch 24 or QAF and cuddle. All in all this has been a great birthday and I will spend all morning tomorrow replying to people's lovely posts.
I felt thoroughly loved today because of all your lovely greetings and you all helped to make this a really nice birthday.
(The party thingie is planned for September 6th when hubby and I celebrate our 15th wedding aniversary - 3 days early but what the heck. So today was meant to be quiet and stressless)

Recs for vids, sites, awards
Aug. 27th, 2003 11:31 pmVids
VIDDER: Luminosity aka
sockkpuppett
TITLE: Evil Angel
SONG: Evil Angel
ARTIST: Rufus Wainwright
PAIRING: Angel/Darla
My comment: Luminosity never fails to make compelling vids. This one is dark and disturbing. And a welcome reminder of just how beautiful Julie Benz is.
VIDDER: Luminosity
TITLE:So Real
SONG: So Real
ARTIST: Jeff Buckley
PAIRING: Angel/Wesley
My comment: The dreamy quality makes this one particularly haunting. Dark. Sad.
VIDDER: Kermit Girl aka Wolfpup
TITLE: Your Woman - A Wandrew Love Story
SONG: Your Woman
ARTIST:White Town
PAIRING: Warren/Andrew
My comment: This one is very very funny. And Andrew wears horrible clothes. That's one thing I love about these vids: you see footage from several episodes and can compare hairdo and clothes. Obviously Spike is prettier, but his wardrobe is not as versatile. And you've got to love this vid if only for the Greek gods footage. *snerk* (Besides, I always loved that song.)
Sites
Also, I joined yet another yahoogroup. This one is devoted to Lilah/Spike fic. Unfortunately it's underpopulated. Meaning more people should join.
Reminder: My own yahoogroup for updates to my site can be found here. I'm not sending out lots of mails, just info whenever I update my site.
Awards
Candy Store Award (slash, minor characters) and The Precious Kisses Award (m/m slash), and Rabid Rabbit Award (Anya) all need more nominations.
