It's time for more [livejournal.com profile] sunday100 drabbles. This time the challenge was about the weather, so I wrote two companion drabbles.

TITLE: Rain I
CHARACTERS: Nikki and Robin
RATING: G
Set just after the Spike/Nikki encounter in LMPTM

***

Was that the face of her killer? Will he be the one? Rain patters down, chilling her to the bone. The adrenaline rush of the fight is gone. Now the only warmth she can feel is her son's tiny hand in hers.

Beside her, Robin leaps over puddles, a six-year-old boy clutching a stake.

He doesn't know it, but he's her mission. The world may be full of monsters, but every staked vamp makes her little corner of the world a fraction less scary, safer for Robin and other kids like him. That's what being a slayer is all about.

TITLE: Rain II
CHARACTERS: The Chinese Slayer and her Watcher
RATING: G
Set after the Spike/Slayer encounter in FFL
(I am not sure if Xin Rong is really her name)

***

The air reeks of smoke, fear, and death, in spite of the incense burnt in her name. In the distance, looting and ransacking continue. Occasionally a gunshot sounds. The rebellion is over.

The white suit feels inappropriate for a funeral. Half way through the ceremony, rain starts to fall, a thin drizzle washing ash and smoke out of the sky. Umbrellas open like blossoms. His is the only black circle in a sea of lacquered umbrellas.

Now that she's dead, his work in Beijing is done. But he still has to write that last journal entry.

Tsai chien, Xin Rong.

Many thanks to all you wonderful people who left such nice feedback for Cues and Balls Part 5 *smooch*. I was going to answer your posts individually, but I find myself staring blindly into space. I think it's time for me to catch up on some sleep. 3-4 hours per night for the past week or so - not enough, at least not without an occasional nap. Gee, it just occurred to me that I'm going to bed about 5-6 hours earlier than usual. Nite nite. And thanks.
