I completely forgot to mention this: [livejournal.com profile] blondegirlchris sent me a postcard from Venice. Whoohoo!
Yesterday I spent the whole afternoon getting my garden ready for winter. I must have torn out about a hundred acorn seedlings. Ouch. Plus tons of old leaves needed throwing away. Those living in a rural area probably can't imagine how stressful, time-consuming and expensive it can be to get rid of garden trash if you live in a larger German city. Our trashcan for green stuff and organic waste (food leftovers) only gets collected once every fortnight, and it is full very quickly. If you have more you have to pack it into a car, drive for 20-30 minutes and drop it off at the city dump, which costs 5 EUR per car load, if I remember correctly. Anyway, I almost filled up our trashcan yesterday. So I either have to stop producing green trash or start shutteling the stuff to the dump.

I planted a bush of chrysanthemums and a small one of asters, uprooted my tomatoes, mowed the lawn, and removed faded blossoms from my petunias. I still have a small patch to do, and a bit of planting. I wish I had a hundred bucks to spare on the garden, but alas, not right now. All spare money will go into Christmas prezzies for the kids. I think I'll buy them a second hand game cube and the Pokémon Coliseum game.

But anyway, when you stand in the garden for a few hours, and the weather is good, half the neighborhood comes past, walking the dog or going for a walk. One lady who was walking her dog, a beautiful if a little young and exuberant Labrador, was so four sheets to the wind, she practically fell over. Her dog kept bouncing around the little children who were playing on the path next to our garden, chasing them on their bikes. It only wanted to play, but actually frightened them. In the end I used my commanding personality and my belt as a leash to lead the dog and its paraletic owner back to their house just round the corner. *shakes head*
Of course when I came back inside, hubby showed me info about a new apartment in our area. He would like to move to a cheaper (and unfortunately smaller) place. I don't really want to move - most apartments do not have enough room for our book collection. The house we currently live in has a large cellar. Even so it is pretty crammed full. Oh well, whether we move or not, getting rid of some of our old magazines from the cellar is high up on my list of priorities. As soon as I can muster the energy I will go back to getting auctions ready for ebay.
