Smallville and other TV
Feb. 18th, 2005 12:09 amAfter running out of new House episodes, I'm finally catching up with my Smallville viewing (it took me a while to get hold of S3 downloads). I watched 3.19 - Memoria. And can I just say wow? Definitely one of the more interesting episodes. I love stories that revolve around the Luthors. John Glover rocks. He is the character one loves to hate. On the whole watching Smallville is like watching a train wreck, you just can't look away (unless the story is contaminated by too much Lana). I know that Lex is destined to be the big enemy, and I don't want him to end like that, yet I am riveted by his storyline. I hate the concept of destiny, always disliked stories in which the outcome was pre-ordained and part of some divine plan, because of the whole freedom-of-will issue. Do I believe the writers will eventually go for a different ending, the way many fanfic authors do? I wish I could.
I haven't read a lot of Smallville fanfic, but I wouldn't mind taking another peek. Recommendations for Clark/Lex centric stories would be welcome. Medium length, if possible, slash is fine, friendship too. PWP? Not so much, I'm more interested in character development. My favorite story so far is The Butterfly Effect by The Spike. I'm sure there are many more good stories out there. I'd be grateful for your recommendations.
Thanks to bittorrent I am watching more TV shows now than ever before: House (Fox just ordered a full season of 22 epis), Point Pleasant (although I am not veeery keen), Veronica Mars, Lost, Smallville, and Battlestar Galactica (even though Bolthar gets on my wick). Next on my list: Deadwood.
Old favorites (outside the Jossian sphere) include Milennium (although I never managed to watch the third season), Kung Fu, Starsky & Hutch, The Professionals (boy, did I have a Bodie crush), Robin of Sherwood, Fitz (with Robbie Coltrane), Minder, The Sweeny, Profiler, Pretender, Babylon 5, Deep Space 9, Magnum PI (even though all Vietnam war references were completely edited out).
I never managed to see more than two episodes of Profit - if that ever appears on bittorrent I intend to grab it as fast as I can. Because that show (by David Greenwalt) was really intriguing.
Never really got into X-Files (hated the repetitiveness of the 'ooops, all the proof is gone' moments) or Alias (although I like Jack Bristow - and I may eventually catch up with this one). Liked 24 but don't feel fanatical about it.
Wow, I must have watched quite a lot of TV. I wonder how much that is in hours of my life...
Anyway, if I haven't listed your favourite show here, why don't you tell me what else I should look out for once I've watched all my Smallville epis. I'm always happy to try out something new...
