Best Wishes for Peace, Happiness, Friendship in 2005 (Click, and I guarantee you, it will bring at least a smile to your face)
I wrote a few more postcards until I ran out of stamps. They will arrive late, but better than no cards at all, right? I didn't manage to write cards to everybody I wanted to (I already exceeded my Christmas budget), but I feel I've greatly improved compared to last year when I didn't write any.
The second part of my Spangel AU will be delayed a little longer (btw the master list is here). I had too much of a toothache yesterday to be able to concentrate on writing (or reading,
hesadevil). I didn't even read LJ - I just vegged out in front of the TV and watched Earthsea Part one (so so) and Veronica Mars 1.11. Oh and hubby and I wrapped Christmas gifts. Once our orders arrive from Amazon we can wrap the rest. I still don't know what to give hubby for Christmas and his birthday. I wish I had a few bucks squirreled away somewhere... *sigh*
As for Veronica Mars, I really love that show. All the characters are very engaging. And Keith Mars rocks. The acting is marvellous. I love both Lost and VM - they ease the pain of not having a Jossian show on the air.
I have to do more Christmas shopping this afternoon, and my whole morning was spent tidying up the living room and my desk (yay), dusting, labelling dozens of VCDs, throwing stuff away, writing a few thank you emails for feedback. On Wednesday it's Aunty alert again, until then I want the house to be shipshape (sp?) because the veiled nagging gets on my wick. The garden is 95% winterproof (better than all the years before where the sad strunks of summer flowers got covered by snow - this year I actually got rid of most of the dead flowers. And I planted all my bulbs. *crosses fingers*.). Hubby finally got the spare parts to fix our fridge, so that part of the kitchen no longer looks make-shift. Now I'd really like hubby to drill a few holes and attach the reading lamps in the kids' room....
Tina is not at school today. She is so easily exhausted and evil tempered today, we decided she needed a stress-free day in bed. Hope that helps her recharge her batteries so she can fight her cold.

Date: 2004-12-20 06:10 am (UTC)Justhuman has a great post about Earthsea, including a link to ULG where she talks about how they messed it up so bad. Sorry, I don't know how to make justhuman's name show up as an lj link. Cuz I'm old and low tech.

Date: 2004-12-20 10:04 am (UTC)I never read the books, I thought they were utterly dull. I am not a great fan of High Fantasy, but I do like Patricia McKillip's Riddlemaster of Hed books, which many compare to Earthsea...
I like Jane Gaskell's Atlantis cycle. And I like Heroic Fantasy like Conan and Brak. Or Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser. And all the early Fantasy novels by Tanith Lee. One reason why the Earthsea two-parter is comparatively dull is the fact that ever since it was published the Fantasy 'community' has liberally borrowed from it - so none of the concepts are in any way new or fresh...

Date: 2004-12-20 09:37 am (UTC)Sorry to hear about the tooth, Steph. I am a bad LJ friend to pester when you are in pain. Forget about the reading. Try to get the tooth fixed before Christmas Eve or it'll spoil the festivities.

Date: 2004-12-20 09:53 am (UTC)I am all for betaing -- I love the way people in fandom help each other out and I want to be part of it!!!! But sometimes it's difficult to fit in.
Why don't you send me the whole lot and I will try to read tonight.
I still have to write dirty!Spangel AU later and at least glance at Dealing, but hubby is off to see the Incredibles. Once the kids are in bed I have the whole evening to myself, without any interference!!!
As for hubby's dancing, it's pretty Lord of the Dance, but with traditional elements too. Whatever the people in the club enjoy. It's a fun community. :-)
Actually, I love Lord of the Dance. I watch the tape every now and then - I'd never cough up the ludicrous amounts for the ticket though....
*smooch*

Date: 2004-12-20 09:59 am (UTC)Have you tried cloves for the toothache? It's an old remedy but, like all pain relief, one that addresses the symptoms, not the cause.

Date: 2004-12-20 10:07 am (UTC)In January boot teeth will get new caps. My gums could be better too, but they are improving as well.
It's a distraction, but thankfully no longer agony.
Send the file and I will try to take a gander. :-)
