I finally have proof that if I overdose on caffeine I can write late at night. Last night I went to bed at 4.30 am - and got up at 7.30. If I keep the caffeinated drinks coming I can keep it up for a 3-4 days, then I have an early night, and then I start the cycle from scratch. I discovered that the caffeine needs about 2 hours to kick in, so I carefully time my intake so that I don't have my tired spells when the kids require attention. If I deprive myself of sleep I have a few very tired spells during the day, but I am not lethargic per se. If I sleep 8+ hours I get grumpy and lazy. If I sleep even longer my back hurts. So, 3-5 hours of sleep per night make me a cheerful and productive person, even though I yawn a lot and eventually collapse on the sofa. Maybe it's true that sleep is a good anti-depressant (provided someone drags you out of bed in the morning).
I have been relatively dilligent phoning my dad every few days. He's now permanently settled in the nursing home in Nubeena (Hobart, Tasmania). His wife and dog visit him every day. He gets blood transfusions. Our conversations are still awkward. I wish I had more to talk about. *sigh*
Tina had her first flute lesson at school. Does anyone want to make bets when I'll throw the flute out of the window or strangle my child? The noise, the noise... *bangs head on desk* Tina is really enthusiastic about it, she decided she wants to work as a flutist when she grows up. God no, please no!
Oh, and I received a lovely postcard today from
miniera. Thank you, dear. I have to try that some time: Gin & Sin. *HUG*
One more thing: According to Word, Dealing clocked in at 39.000 words. Wow.

Actually 30-40,000 words is a nice length for fanfic in general.
