I'm in a good mood today, so I decided to do a weenie drabble competition. Winner gets a 100-word drabble of a chosen pairing (please give me a prompt of up to three words as well, please). I am prepared to write Jossverse, Smallville (although I have only watched up to 3x18), heck, I'd even give Lost a shot. If you want something more obscure, just ask and I'll try. Time to spread my writerly wings a bit.
All comments will be screened until the quiz is over and the winner has been determined. Please use only your memory, not google or IMDb, okay?
(Oh and if you have posted your answers and an hour later another answer suddenly pops into your brain, feel free to add to your initial post.)

A. Name the movie the quote comes from - one point per correct answer: (These are the easy ones)

1. If you build it he will come.
2. Excuse me, Johnny, I've got to hang up. We're expecting a call from you any minute.
3. If you read the T.V. Guide, you don't need a TV.
4. I don't even call it love. I call it Geronimo.
5. One wolf recognizes another.
6. We were all feeling a bit shagged and fagged and fashed, it being a night of no small expenditure.
7. One day, men will look back and say that I gave birth to the Twentieth Century.
8. You are a sad, strange, little man. You have my pity. Farewell.
9. Does Ed go out the window? Let's have a show of hands. [to Ed] You can vote too, it's America.
10. I'm faster than you'll ever live to be.

B: I give you the names of a fictional character, you give me the actor and the movie - one point per correct anwer

1. Brick Pollitt
2. Thaddeus Gearhart
3. Tom Wingo
4. Cole Thornton
5. Rigby Reardon
6. Sally Bowles
7. Vivian Ward
8. Giles Redferne
9. Sarah Tobias
10. Terry Dolittle

Maximum points: 30
Enjoy!

ETA: Not many answers so far. And here I was, thinking I'd made the questions too easy. Come on, guys, give me your best guess. If you don't know the title of a movie you can describe it for half a point.

Oh, once again I'm covered with shame at how much I DON'T know. But, since no one else has jumped in yet, I'll start.
1) Field of Dreams
6) Clockwork Orange
and on actors...
3)oh, this feels vaguely Gatsby to me, is it Sam Shepherd?
6) Liza Minnelli in Cabaret
7) Complete guess, the only Vivian I can think of is Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman
9) Another guess, is this Glenn Close in Sarah Plain and Tall?
and finally, TADA
8) Whoopi Goldberg in Jumpin Jack Flash, a movie I LOVE LOVE LOVE. Mick, Mick, speak English!

number one is field of dreams. I only know this because it's based on a book by a Canadian Author, W.P Kinsella. As to eight. I know eight. Is it... toy story?

A.2 sounds like a quote from my favourite scene in 'Harvey' to me, that Jimmy Stewart movie (not sure if this the original title because I've only ever seen it in German, 'Mein Freund Harvey', and you said we weren't allowed to search the 'net ;-)).

As for the rest, I have no clue whatsoever... :-)

3. If you read the T.V. Guide, you don't need a TV.

Grandpa from the Lost Boys. It's at the beginning of the movie and they're unpacking and moving in. Grandpa's explaining the RULES to Sam and he says this just before he shuts the double doors that separate the family room from the rest of the house....also, how scary is it that I've not seen this movie in at least six years and I can picture this scene as if it's happening right now! HEE!

#3 is from Lost Boys.
#9 is from Dream Team... a movie I really need to pick up on DVD at some point.

I could probably get more after I wake up a bit... but that's it off the top of my head.

7. One day, men will look back and say that I gave birth to the Twentieth Century.

One of the few lines that survived the transition of From Hell from book to film. Sigh. Poor Alan Moore. Spoken by Jack the Ripper in both versions, though on very different occasions. Jack the Ripper in this instance played by Ian Holm, who didn't need black contact lenses, oh idiotic directors, to be spooky - he's good enough as an actor to do this on his own.

9. Does Ed go out the window? Let's have a show of hands. [to Ed] You can vote too, it's America.

L.A. Confidential.

Tom Wingo: Played by Nick Nolte in The Prince of Tides. Which is that strange thing, a film version of a novel which picked the framing narration to film instead of the main chunk (the childhood story is two third in the novel, the New York sections one third, all in all.) Tom is the narrator in both cases.

Too easy?! Uh... nope! Not for me at least. Heh. And here I was thinking I was a movie fan. Obviously a delusion. I know a total of 2 from the first section (#1 is Field of Dreams, and #3 is Lost Boys), and I don't know any of the second section. A couple seem familiar, but I can't quite place them.

Ah well...

1. Field of Dreams (far too easy)
9. Ed

I so recognize #8, (can even here the voice inflection), but can't for the life of me remember what movie it's from.

I can only do one - Sally Bowles is in Cabaret, played by Liza Minelli. can't do the others *at all*, although I know I read quote #1 in [livejournal.com profile] toysdream's journal, so presumably he knows where it comes from.

Ooh, ooh, I finally remembered where I know one of the names from (I think). Is #9 Jodie Foster's character from The Accused?

And because I might as well make more of an effort I'll guess some more of the quotes:

#5 - X-Men? (or maybe X-men 2?)
#7 - Citizen Kane?
#9 - EdTV?

I LOVE these quizzes. I am a total movie nut and it's fun to try and challenge myself. Thanks for not having all recent pop hits.

1 Field of dreams.
2. Maybe Johnny Neumonic? But I don't remember that quote. Bah.
3. Yay! The Lost Boys.
4. Conspiracy Theory. I didn't like that movie, but tons of my friends did, so it was playing all of the time.
5. No idea, but it's a great quote and now I want to see the movie.
6. Clockwork Orange
7. From Hell
8. I know this quote, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out where the heck it is from. *bangs head*
9. That Ed TV show movie
10. Yay, High Plains Drifter (loved that movie)

Characters:

1. Brick Pollitt = Cat on Hot Tin Roof (my mom loved Paul Neuman)
2. Thaddeus Gearhart = The hallelujah Trail (yay prohibition whiskey movies) Burt Lancaster
3. Tom Wingo - The Prince of Tides (Nick Nolte)
4. Cole Thornton - It's a John Wayne character, but I don't remember which movie. Bah.
5. Rigby Reardon - ha!! Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid - Steve Martin
6. Sally Bowles - Cabaret (lots of different ppl have played this character, but I prefer Liza Minneli (or however you spell it)
7. Vivian Ward (bleh) - Julia Roberts, Pretty Woman
8. I have no idea, this is utterly unfamiliar. Damn.
9. No idea
10. No idea.

Bah, I crashed and burned at the end of that. But hey, thanks for letter me play, it was great fun.
