estepheia: (Tina and Toyah)

It's Tina's 9th birthday party on Friday. Last year we had a Raclette, and a jell-o and custard buffet, and we organized an Irish Dance workshop for the children, this year we have a themed party: Magic.
Tina is allowed to invite 9 friends. We bought little toy owls at IKEA for 99 cents per owl, they will "carry" the invite, an "old" scroll full of magic symbols. The party takes place on Friday the 13th, at 3.13 pm. :-)
The most important activity will be the creation of magic staffs. Hubby just bought 11 broom handles. I have beads, ribbons, pieces of leather, plastic spiders, Christmas decorations, wires and whatnot. I made a magic staff for Tina for Halloween (see pic here - I tried to turn the pic but didn't know how), and it struck me then, that this might be a great activity for her birthday party.

I should probably come up with a few more activities, like a quiz, but my brain is drawing a blank. So, if anyone on my flist has a great idea that ties in with the magic theme, don't hesitate to tell me.
I also haven't decided yet what I'll serve for dinner... Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. In the afternoon I'll serve scones with jam and cream and grated cheese, because Tina likes that, and most kids don't eat expensive cake anyway.

Hubby just took the kids swimming, so I better start writing. I am way behind schedule.
Btw, our shopping trip yesterday? Fun, but disappointing. I bought some cheap jewelry, but every piece of clothing I tried on was too small. I hate outlet stores that don't sell anything larger than L. *crosses H&M off list of stores to frequent*
Hubby and I saw Rumor Has it last night. Cute, but nothing to write home about.

It's easy to turn it. I use a little freeware program called irfanview to do simple things like this ----->

Damn - not able to edit comments.

Party game - Charades?
Why not have a 'couldron' full of little gifts attached to each 'charade' challenge?

Thank you!

A cauldron full of little gifts sounds nice. :-)
A charade sounds too difficult. The kids don't have a common frame of reference. We did something similar last year, they had to come up with questions to ask the other group, but we did not do a proper charade.
The quiz was a little too competitive, I thought...

BTW, after clicking like mad I finally managed to find the little sub-menue where users are allowed to flip and rotate images that are uplodaded to the scrapbook.

Are you going Potter at all? If you are, you could have a sorting hat and sort the girls into houses (although two or three might be enough)- all games and stuff will award house points and the winning house gets extra cake! Might be a tad too competitive, though.

From a web-page:
Craft: Make ahead black capes with the kid's names in glitter. Let the kids glue on precut stars, swirls, sew on buttons, jewels, even iron on jewel designs are available. *cute*

Also cute, but with a high ick-factor:
Making Potions
Before your guests arrive, mix several bottles of colored fruit drink (kool-aid). Place the bottles on a table with a vinyl table cloth. Provide plastic cups or jars. Allow the children to make their own potion to drink or give to someone else! To make it more authentic label the jars of liquid before hand. See the list of potion names, and their actual
Muggle names, below for ideas.

Sleeping Potion - blue "kool-aid"
Extract of Pituitary - lemonade
Dragon tears - red punch
Excitability Formula - orange kool-aid
Hippogriff Gizzard - Jell-O "jigglers"
Bloodworms - gummy worms
Mandrake Root - dried papaya
Tip: Lead the group in making a potion, and then let the kids make their own. Be creative and have fun!

Oh the potions sound like fun!
The kids are allowed to come in costume and we have lots of costumes for kids who don't have any of their own, so there's no need to create coats. thank god.

We will definitely go Harry Potter (hence the owls). We will even play the music. Unfortunately I only have the third soundtrack, but it will have to suffice.

Not sure about the house sorting. I'll think about it.
Maybe if we pretend to be of anohter school, with other houses...

Whooaaaa!
That site is soooo coool! Thank you!!!
And yeah, the soundtracks would be super, or maybe just the best songs, the less dramatic or creepy ones. Yay.
Thank you so much for your help.

We have a reputation to uphold, you know? Our parties are always very popular with the kids. :-)

Many many thanks!
The first track of TGoF somehow didn't make it, but I received the rest.
*HUG*
This will definitely add to the atmosphere of the party!

I guess the first one was my fault, I probably didn't allow for enough upload range or something.

I stopped spamming you, but if you're interested I still got the last 12 songs of Goblet Of Fire here, so I could always send them.

If you want to make the potions bubble, but pop rocks in them.

Sounds cool. But what are pop rocks? Never heard of them. :-)

I wasn't sure if they had them over there or not, but I figured I'd mention it. They are these little pieces of hard candy, resembling tiny rocks. You put them in your mouth and they go "pop," lots of popping when they get wet, which is why they work well for potions. When I threw my daughters a faery party, I did that for them.

Happy Birthday to Tina! I can't believe it; it feels like I was just reading about her birthday party, then realized it was LAST YEAR. ;-)

Heee. Maybe you're remembering Viktoria's party where all the kids dressed up as Indians (American Natives), and ate chicken in tents. :-)
Or last year's party, where all the kids made their pirate's diploma...
:-)

Yeah, time flies. No kidding. I have so many things on my plate right now... *flails*
