Remember me? Yes, I'm still alive. :-)
For several weeks my back has been giving me trouble. I blame having to do the dishes manually. The position of the sink forces me into a slightly twisted stance. Anyway, last week things got a lot worse. I went to my GP, then to an orthopedist, then back to my GP. They couldn't unblock whatever was blocked, but at least my GP wrote me a prescription for a massage/manual therapy. Only, the massage a) was excruciatingly painful, and b) made things worse, or maybe I made things worse, because in spite of my screwed up back I went to work on Thursday and on Friday.
A colleague is going to the states next week, until mid-August, and she asked me to take over her remaining Grammar and Conversation Practice classes. Another foot in the door at university! Naturally, I couldn't let my back deter me from that opportunity. The department may not always see the need for creative writing classes, but there will always be grammar courses. Teaching outside my normal comfort zone is a step in the right direction. Maybe one day I can teach additional courses...
Only... back trouble. On Friday, after sitting in on my colleague's classes, my back took a turn for the worse. I went to see my GP, he told me to cancel all the remaining massage sessions, gave me decent pain killers, and promised to get me a cat scan, so we know what we're dealing with and what we have to do to keep me in one piece. I spent Friday night in agony. I was so blocked and in pain that I was barely able to walk, let alone sit down or up. I shuffled along like a 100-year-old. Saturday I spent flat on my back on the sofa, playing pokeomon on Tina's gameboy, and watching the first 10 epis of Angel S5 again, which rekindled my waning love for Spike, Angel, Wesley, and Joss Wheedon. *sigh* I wish he'd give us a new TV series.

The Spike/Angel interaction on the show is as wonderful as I remember it (Hubby asked me if there are really people who don't see the subtext). The show hasn't aged, it's still captivating. And even the episodes that I didn't like much the first time I saw them, like Unleashed and the story of Numero Cinquo are like old friends, better than I remember them. In Harm's Way gave me warm fuzzies. Harmony was such a wonderful addition to the cast.

Hubby keeps telling me I should start writing fanfic again. He misses my Spike/Anya stories. I'd rather finish my Anya & Andrew fic first, and Perdition, and *sigh* I always meant to rewrite and finish my Spike/Angel porn Devil You Know that somehow fizzled when the show was cancelled. But the muse is elusive. I think she doesn't like the mess that our rooms are in.
Unfortunately, I still feel like I haven't fully settled into the new place. I love the new place, it's light and airy, with a great view, but we still haven't solved the not-enough-space-for-all-our-stuff problem. Too many boxes are crammed into all the nooks and corners. I need to part with more things, but somehow I can't. I should probably put up stuff on ebay, but taking pictures and describing stuff is time-consuming, and so far I haven't found the energy to do it. We were going to start with that this weekend, but the back trouble got in the way. *sigh*
I also have a carton full of Star Trek mags in the cellar for [livejournal.com profile] trepkos. I need to make up a list so she can tell me which ones she'd like.

Anyway, from the fact that I sat down in front of the computer to type this you can see that I'm feeling a little better. I can walk around, sit for a while, and bend again (as long as I have something to hold on to). I am in pain but it's bearable. Hubby has taken care of the household these past few days. The kids are currently away on a little weekend camp but they'll be back this afternoon.
I just hope that I'll be fit enough soon to work on Thursday and Friday. I need the money. Any good vibes you'd like to send my way would be greatly appreciated. :-)

One good thing comes out of the whole back trouble thing. Our old dishwasher was teetering on the brink of expiration, and we were going to throw it away and save money for a new one, but now hubby will try to put the old one into our kitchen. Keep your fingers crossed that it survived the dismantling of our old kitchen and that it still works...

Sorry about your back - it's horrible being immobilised in any way.
I was just thinking about those mags the other day!
Great minds!
But writing porn is also important.
Well done on getting through to the semi-finals BTW (if you care about the beautiful game that is!)

Hee, see, I haven't forgotten about the mags.
They are mostly the official magazines. Mostly DS9, I think. I will make a list, because if you have them already, it would be a waste of postage. The carton is pretty heavy. :-)

And yeah, porn...
The only porn I've written in the last 6 months is Riley/Spike, but I never posted it...
It wasn't really any good...

And yeah, we're watching the footie. Sorry about last night's game. It was a sad way to go. Have to admit that part of us rooted for the Portugese, because there is a Portugese meeting place just a stone throw away, they have BBQs and such, and they were so happy, you could hear their cheers and excitement...
But of course we're mostly rooting for Germany.

Germany hasn't been such a happy place in a very long time... It's great!

Right, I better get off my desk, before my back gets worse...

There's a lot of Portuguese over here, so I expect we had a mimi-riot in town last night! They deserved to win just for not stamping in other players.
