I just read a summary of the Giles storyline in the S8 comics. WTF? Is Joss Whedon nuts????

I always meant to read the comics and therefore avoided spoilers. I stopped reading after Ethan's death (and set about resurrecting him in fanfiction) - and now I'm pretty sure I'll never read the rest.

ETA: Sorry, I'd use spoiler cuts, but somehow I never get them to work properly. I used to have a posting client, that was really useful, but these days I type my entries into my browser and the cut thingie never works like I expect. I suppose I should download a client. Which one do you use?

Yea, to say I wasn't impressed about what bloody Whedon did to Giles in these damn comics is an understatement.

Especially as he's since been reported as saying he thought Giles wasn't relevant to Buffys life anymore, but by killing him off he was made relevant again. *eye roll*

It's funny how Joss always kills off the characters I like best (with maybe the exception of Book)....
Any other deaths (or survivals) I should know about? Is it true that Wes survived NFA?

Rubbish, a good writer would be able to come up with interesting storylines for Giles - if he/she wanted to. I know it's all about Buffy (and the metaphor), that's the problem. That's also what went wrong with S7. The characters had evolved beyond their role in Buffy's life - but the storyline was not designed to give them their own spotlight.

Seriously? I think Joss lost the connection to his characters. He no longer cares for them like he used to.

Maybe it's because there is a decided difference between being fully immersed in a show and fast-writing screenplays for it with a bunch of other authors and occasionally working on a comic book.

"Is it true that Wes survived NFA?:

Sadly no. He just briefly came back as a ghost. :(

Yeah, sadly I think you're right there.

Given how he wrote the other characters in the comics and how he'd written Giles up to that point, killing him just might have been a mercy. Real!Giles would have killed himself after that evolution garbage.

Horrible, horrible, horrible.

Ho boy, that sounds.... off-putting.

Maybe he should have just left his verse alone. I was happy the way it ended after NFA - not over the moon, because of dead Anya and Wes, but happy enough. There was plenty of room for fanfic....
*sigh*

Yes.

(I can link you to copious amounts of posts on the subject! Some of them very silly. Oh and genuine meta too.)

Thanks, but I don't think I'll need the links. I'll just finish my Ethan-resurrection fic - and from then on I'll ignore the comics completely. :)
