Okay, I have been too busy to visit LJ. Now I realize that there are adverts everywhere. Under every single post!

How are you guys dealing with the stupid ads? Did you all migrate? Is anyone still here?
Have you deleted your LJs? Reposted your stuff elsewhere? Did you decide to pay to get rid of the ads?

I already created an account at Dreamwidth. I meant to use it for the occasional fanfic, but now I'm thinking of going there and just crosspost to LJ, without actually reading posts here....

*grumbles*

That is a great help!

But you're wrong, the ads are at the bottom of EACH post of my flist, i.e. between posts.
I have been aware of the banners at the bottom of each page for quite some time, those I was prepared to put up with, but the way my flist looks now, that's just plain ridiculous!

I will try to import my LJ into Dreamwidth.
A week from now I'll have a few days off. That seems to be the right moment to find out how it's done. :)

Ah - sorry about the look of your f-list. It's probably the difference between logging out and appearing as a guest and being logged in as a free user. In an effort to be more like Facebook, LJ has created the "new friends page". There should be an option at the top of the page to try it out.

Like Facebook,it's a sitewide theme with infinite scroll. It's not my cup of tea, but it may place the adds differently than you're current f-list view.

Definitely try the import over to DW. Most people that you know here that moved over have the same name, so easy to look up. You might want to look at the friending meme that Kouredios set up. It started in the beginning of December, but I still get a ping for it. Even if it's a little late to put up your bio, you could find folks with similar interests to "subscribe" to.

On DW you have the option to give people "access" and to "subscribe" -- it splits the function of friending that LJ has. Just because of the status of my relations on LJ and the fact that I don't tend to lock anything, I usually end up giving everyone both. That being said, I can feel free to subscribe to anything without implying that I want to be BFF with this new person ;-)

I just started the import. *crosses fingers*
DW won't change the fact that I won't be around a lot, but at least I won't get angry at the ads whenever I do pop by for a quick dip into the fandom world....

Never thought I'd say this, but I am conservative - in that I feel that you should never touch a running system. LJ was great, so why tamper with it?

Anyway, I spent a few hours on my G/E WIP and I'm hoping to post the next installment soonish. Hence my interest in setting up an environment for the update. :)
