Thoughts on TPTP

Friday night, Marcee promised to read my draft of the next chapter of TPTP and add to it. I received nothing from her, not even a 'sorry, I'm too busy'-email. I'm peeved.
I know she's not happy with the way the story has developed. She's very polite about it, but she expected way more Spuffy luvin' and less angst, and she is not interested in the original characters.
My mission statement was always to make Buffy lose some of her self-involvement by making her walk in Maeve's shoes. To take that depressed S6 character and make her grow in a convincing way, without the S6 darkness and self-loathing.
I'm always concerned with continuity and convincing characterisation. I want to know how the characters feel and why they behave the way they do. For Buffy to boink Spike just because he's pretty is just... blah.
Unlike Marcee, I'm also quite invested in the lives of the original characters.
I must admit I didn't know it would become so long. It wasn't meant to grow like that. But I'm not unhappy that it did. I like the epic texture. We tried to give every major character at least one moment in the spotlight where he or she could shine. I think we accomplished that with most characters, only Willow hasn't had her spotlight moment.
We're almost finished now. It feels weird. I can already see the finishing line. I'm sorry it's taking so long. I sit here, feeling twitchy, wanting to write, but I want to cross the finishing line together with Marcee - not on my own.
Sorry, had to get this off my chest.
Edited to add: See, sometimes whining helps. Marcee just came online and is working on the new chapter. Yay!

Date: 2003-03-16 11:04 am (UTC)Mere Spuffy luvin', you find on the net a-plenty. To find fics with a compelling plot you have to look much harder. And OCs you actually care about? A rare species. Your story has all those.
Anyway, can't wait to see rest. I've been saving up the last chapters cuz I want to read the rest of the story in one.
