Just joined Band of Buggered Forumboard. Since Big Bad Board no longer has a fanfic corner I thought I might just as well.
Visited Nauti's site to find directions to Older, but apparently I'm too dumb. *shrug*

My wrist hurts. Can hardly move it. It's my right wrist, the one with the complicated fracture from my one and only attempt at ice-skating. It got operated but has a scar and is neither as mobile nor as resistant as it used to be. And two days ago I hurled a few crates of water and soda around. Since then it worsened. Today I went swimming with Tina and we played ball, enjoyed the water slides and everything. But the dull ache turned into real pain. I can type with the wrist resting on my notebook, but I am unable to lift my writst off the computer without pain. *sigh*

I should translate more Fell Beasts and Wonderous Magic, but it's hot and I'm exhausted. Also I'm feeling peckish. Wouldn't mind a large portion of Dutch patat frites (French fries) with mayonaise, ketchup and chopped onions. When it's hot I always crave salty potato stuff like chips or fries....

God, I'd kill for a nap!

Thank you. *blows kiss*
I spent about half an hour skimming fic, but my brain is running on emergency power since my main generator has shorted out due to severe heat and a home made Pina Colada which I shouldn't have had, not at 3 in the afternoon, but there was this left over pineapple juice and coconut creame, and I happened to have Malibu in the house (a bottle that seems to be older then my two daughers, maybe even combined - how long does it actually take for spirits to go off?). Now I'm tipsy from one sodding little Pina Colada. *weeps with shame*
Anyway thanks for helping me be pervy. Pervs of a feather stick together.
Can you tell that if I drink I become even more verbose?

Quite alright, my brain hs shorted out also, but that is due more to working too many hours than any pina coladas. I like your way better. :)

Pervy is fun! LOL

Enjoy! :)

Ah good, you've found it then. Next comes the agonizing wait to see if you're pervy enough to qualify for readership...though I don't think you'll have anything to worry about there.

You've got strange tastes ... for someone who's not Dutch, at least. Next you'll be telling me you like to eat your herring whole and raw and covered in chopped onions like us too, or put away a pound of salty licorice every day...

Sorry to hear about your wrist. Hope it improves soon.

Licorice? Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
But I do like vleeskrokets (would kill for them!), pinda saus, rostbif, beefstuk van de haas, gruene hering, paaling, poffertjes (mmmmmm), lek--- uh the fried fish fillets, apple sauce with wieners, saté salad, Dutch Bami Goreng (not the crap you get here), slaafinken, vla (yummie), frikandels. And of course Dutch pankakes (apple, bacon, cinnamon)....

I can also swear in Dutch, well a little bit.
The explanation? My great-uncle was Dutch, he was a tabacco planter in Indonesia, I loved him and his stories and we often went to Enschede or Noordwijk on holiday. We also spent two holidays in Duinrell. I like Holland. I wish we could afford going there more often.

lek -- uh the fried fish fillets

Lekkerbekjes - the word lekkerbek (lit. tasty mouth) implies a gourmet, and so it's no wonder these fish fillets are called by the diminutive. You can get me up at 3:00 AM for them and I won't mind losing sleep...

Although personally, I prefer garnalenkroketten to vleeskroketten (but then, I just couldn't live in a world without shrimp) - you should try some next time you're in Holland. Preferably in Duinrell, which is just around the corner from where I live ;-).

Dutch food is good! Or, well, at least the stuff I've had. I work very hard to keep a supply of anijsblokjes in the cupboard (they're not easy to get in the US) -- same goes for packets of shoarma seasoning. Fortunately there's a Dutch store over in Ballard (near Seattle) that occasionally carries that stuff.

Well, if you ever run out of anything, and the store doesn't stock it or goes out of business, gimme a shout. As of this moment, I'm making it my mission in life to introduce the world at large to the delights of anijsblokjes, stroopwafels and hagelslag...though maybe not the licorice ;-)

Getting local grills and fast food places to make vleeskrokets, now THAT would be a worthy mission.
We used to get them in Osnabrück, which is two hours closer to Holland than Braunschweig. Here? No such luck.

Amazing what a difference two hours by car make. The fast food "landscape" is entirely different, different sausages, different burgers, etc.

True. There's no Goetterspeise or rote Gruetze to be got here, e.g.; or only with utmost difficulty.

Thank you bonnie. That's sweet of you.
I always have slight pangs of guilt for being unable to suffer in dignified silence, but a good whine usually helps. And healing vibes from across the Atlantic are even better! *blows kiss (with left hand)*

Ouch. It sounds like you have a similar problem to me. In my case a broken wrist that wasn't diagnosed for 6 weeks, combined with torn tendons and blood vessels, followed up with 7 weeks in a cast. I still have problems if I don't do weights to strengthen the muscles to counteract the damaged area. The symptoms are just like yours. I find using a tubigrip bandage (one of those elasticated ones) doubled over with a whole for my thumb and from the second knuckle to the elbow, for a day or so puts it back to functional - and me to the gym. It'll be really hot in this weather to do it, but it works for me. Might do for you. I hope it helps.

Thanks for the tip. We tried bandaging it but that felt even more uncomfortable, grindingly so. :-(

I will try to rest my wrist a bit, if it doesn't improve I'll see a doc next week. Fortunately, I'm covered by inusrance.
