Present Tense

Why am I suddenly writing all my stories in the present tense? I used to hate - even avoid - reading stories written in the present tense.
It seems the natural choice right now - which comes as quite a surprise.

Darn, I feel like gobbling down a load of chilli tortilla chips. Alas, no snacks in the house due to cutbacks in our non-essential food budget. *Sigh* Oh well, 3.20 am is probably not the right time to stuff myself, anyway.

who only had one single goal...
to atone for his sins,
we should play violins
Poor poofter, his life is so droll.

So Red is a powerful witch,
although her spells always have a slight glitch...
something always goes wrong,
guess she's just too strong...
or maybe she's simply a bitch.

harris is just like a stray;
he follows you around every day...
Anya's no petal,
guess he had to settle
or maybe the pillock's just gay.
