estepheia: (They're only words...)
I finally did it, I put the link to Thesaurus.com into my task bar, now it's only a mouse-click away. Until today I was relying on my trusty Roget's Thesaurus, yes, an actual book. I wonder why.
Anyway, as I was merrily typing away, fiddling with Pandora Part 5, I realized that I use the word 'smooth' too much - especially in relation to skin. But I think I'm not the only one to use that word too much. So, here's what the Thesaurus offers:

Entry: smooth
Function: adjective
Definition: level
Synonyms: bland, continuous, creamy, easy, effortless, equable, even, flat, flowing, fluent, fluid, flush, frictionless, gentle, glassy, glossy, hairless, horizontal, invariable, lustrous, mild, mirrorlike, monotonous, peaceful, plain, plane, polished, quiet, regular, rhythmic, rippleless, serene, shaven, shiny, silky, sleek, soft, soothing, stable, steady, still, suant, tranquil, unbroken, undeviating, undisturbed, uneventful, uniform, uninterrupted, unruffled, untroubled, unvarying, unwrinkled, velvety
Concept: texture (smooth)

Has anyone ever seen 'suant' used? I know I haven't, but I do like the sound and the look of the word.

I've seen 'sleek' and 'velvety'and 'lustrous' (which almost makes me giggle).

I'm a bad bad person, because for this LJ I'm deviating from my intention to never post my Pandoraverse-stories in chunks but only when they are finished.

However, I've fiddled with this one for so long, going backwards and forwards, that I'm making an exception. Is it too purple? I'm losing perspective because I've stared at this bit for too long. But if I post it, maybe I'll leave that part alone and get to the second half. I really have to stop fiddling and I will, unless of course people tell me it sucks and how, which is fine too, because then at least I will get an idea of how to fix it.

Most of this was written before [livejournal.com profile] eliade started writing her "Subtleties" but with a baleful eye I spotted a few similarities (in theme anyway) and then became self-conscious and stopped working on it for a while.

Sorry, about the long blah-di-blah. Here is Pandoraverse 5.1, as yet untitled and unbetaed.
