To all those who were concerned about my plan to stop eating for a week. Thanks, but don't worry. Weight loss may occur but it's secondary to the whole concept of fasting to purify the whole system. I consider it akin to hitting the reset switch. Hopefully it will break up a few bad eating habits. For example I've gotten used to putting a lot of sugar into my coffee and tea - hopefully not having any sugar for a week will reset that habit. I don't like artificial sweeteners, they all have a foul aftertaste (at least the ones I've tried), but if I can cut down my daily sugar intake by half it should already make a difference.
We read a book on fasting, so we're careful. We are taking enough minrals, and we drink a lot of healthy stuff, a bit of juice, some vegetable broth, herbal teas. That's not gonna kill us.
I'm already mentally going through my shopping list and delegating regularly eaten stuff like salami into the 'may buy it occasionally' column. We already drink lo-fat milk (unfortunately the lowest we can get here is 1,5% fat).
I have a good book that lists fat content of various food types. That's useful when trying to determine which of two forbidden foods is the lesser evil.
So, as you can see we've given this some thought. But thanks for worrying, anyway. *smooches*

You go girl
Date: 2003-04-27 08:43 am (UTC)It's always difficult to explain to people who haven't fasted before that while in the interim you may feel like crap [particularly the first 2-3 days] after the fast you'll feel really good.
Good luck with those first 2-3 days....always the toughest.

Date: 2003-04-27 09:01 am (UTC)I think I will be naughty in one respect and allow myself a few cups of black unsweetened tea every day, because I really miss my caffeine.
BTW, love your icon. So mega-cute.

Date: 2003-04-27 10:41 am (UTC)I discovered just how intolerant I was to starchy foods and how detrimental they were to my health when I adopted a low carb lifestyle. Cutting out all the starches and processed foods and sugar from my system has made such a tremendous difference to my overall health - I sleep really well now, have bags of energy and I'm losing weight. It's not for everyone, but it's made my life an awful lot more pleasant :)
Best of luck with it - go you!!

Date: 2003-04-27 11:08 am (UTC)Yeah, the detoxing is supposed to get my health on track. Appartently my body chemistry is too sour. In the mornings I wake up with creaking joints. It takes me an hour to feel better...
Lovely icon, btw. *Sigh*
Yummie.
